Original Deerington Application

• Additional Adjustments to include:
When Reaper arrived in the original Deerington, his only interest was returning back to his revenge and being as terrible as he could to everyone that he met. The former he never seemed to accomplish, since he couldn’t escape Deerington despite his efforts and the latter he accomplished very well for much of his stay within the dream. After all, Reaper wasn’t one to want attachments, since he didn’t plan on staying long enough for them to matter. At the time, he had a single friend that he had had for years in Moira O’Deorain and saw no reason to go beyond her as no one else particularly mattered to his escape of Deerington or life itself.

The “Honorable Mentions”
Reaper was blessed to have castmates when he arrived, which allowed him to establish himself as a mercenary and a mean piece of work. Moira O’Deorain was and is his best friend, and she was the one person that just accepted him as he was. Their relationship was a stabilizing presence for him, the anchor to his ship when he chose to drift out too far because he was all about testing the limitations of Deerington. She was the one person who understood his motivations or didn’t bother herself with questioning them. He respected her greatly, not a feat that was accomplished easily. She also was the partially the reason that he was in the physical state that he was in, and he needed her to work out a way to let him die. She was also literally the only person he would listen to when he hit the point of needing to reign in his antics and behaviour. Her importance to him remaining stable and even bonding at times with other can’t be understated. Moira remains the only character Reaper has ever apologized to.

The other half of Moira was her partner, scientist and medical professional, Angela Ziegler was someone that Reaper had an extremely contentious relationship with. It was only discussed once, but Angela found Reyes’ dead body in the rubble of the fallen Overwatch and in her grief, she used her technology and medical knowledge to revive him. This action triggered the previous experimentation on his body with Moira to activate him being in the constant war of regeneration and decay. It was an underlying part of their often contentiousness towards each other, as he hadn’t forgiven her. Yet, he was forced to tolerate her presence what with her relationship with Moira. That didn’t stop him from acting out and she often was the one trying to keep the peace with the rest of the Sleepers to her own detriment.

During one of the events, Angela ate Devil’s Food Cake and was transformed into a demonic version of herself. She and Reaper were attracted to each other for their enjoyment of violence, and she found his chaotic driven nature to be fascinating. They had a brief fling together, which was a major point of development as previously Reaper refused to allow himself to bond that strongly with anyone. He had assumed no one would ever have interest in him on such a level due to his condition, his age, and his personality. While it ended very, very badly for all involved once the cake effects wore off, it was an pivotal moment for Reaper that uncovered a deep and understated longing for connection with another person on such a personal level.

Ironically, the first person to actually make a connection with Reaper was the first person he outright killed in Deerington, chosen relatively randomly. When Reaper met Chloe Price, she annoyed him for her obstinance and attitude, and he wasn’t above petty revenge, even if his real reason for killing her was to test how death worked in Deerington (something he never outright admitted to anyone). This act set the stage of his own first death but more importantly, it was the act that caused both Reaper and Chloe to realize they had commonality in the fact that both of them had had multiple deaths in their respective canons. As Reaper had never met anyone who came back from death before, he was fascinated by Chloe and she by him.

They developed a relationship over time that often started with bad jokes on her part and came to evolve into Reaper going out of his way to protect Chloe whether from a physical threat or forcing his presence on her in silence while she worked through some of her traumas. He offered a rare, usually non-judgmental point of view, never sugar coating his observations of situations she asked him about. He slowly revealed little details about himself over time. She was one of the few people he was upset about when she was sent home because their relationship was so refreshing and messy and even complicated.

Jesse McCree and Reaper had a complicated relationship based around a pile of old unspoken history, denial that Reyes was still alive on McCree’s part and Reaper doing whatever he could to be an ass to Jesse. They managed tense conversations and a generalized distrust of each other for the longest time, and yet when push came to shove, they cared about one another and were deeply bitterly angry with one another. Their complicated history did not make any encounter easy, but slowly over time, Reaper began to make a sort of tense peace with McCree for leaving Blackwatch. While nothing was easy, by the end, they were willing to help each other in tight situations. It was an important step for Reaper to accept McCree again and even by protective of the other guy in his own way.

The “Kids”
When Reaper met Fern, he wasn’t too interested. It was a grass kid with low self-esteem, a wildly erratic fighting style and a blood thirstiness for a kill. He pretty much kick the crap out of Fern to prove that he was top dog when it came to combat and that the kid had a lot to learn still. His relationship was mostly boredom when he agreed to train the kid, but it gradually morphed into a competition if Fern could eventually find a way to kill Reaper. Training was less about teaching and more about giving Fern opportunity to try to stab him over and over again. It was rudimentary with little, if any, sense of attachment. It wasn’t until much later and through many events that Reaper and Fern began to develop an actual sense of trust in one another. Reaper had begun to mellow by this point and he was more willing to engage the younger generation. Often he could trust on Fern to come kill things, and on his last death, he was invited to stay in Disaster House to recover. With events of massacres, Reaper has committed a part of himself to stay at the house to give a sense of protection to the place. Maybe he’s seen a few too many kids dead in his lifetime to want it to happen again.

Within Disaster House, Reaper has met Varian, Fern’s better half. There is something about the antisocial kid in the basement that reminds him far too much of Moira when he first met her and did anything he could to annoy her into friendship. He understands Varian’s antisocial nature as well as keeping past experiences close to the chest, and the kid is someone that Reaper had automatically gravitated to out of respect rather than a need to push buttons as usual. Varian is enough of a mystery to be interesting and engaging, and oddly enough, Reaper has no issue protecting Varian and pushing the kid out of his comfort zone.

But before all those other kids, there was a de-aging event where Gabriel Reyes met Diarmuid who was a mute child at the time. Young, fresh-faced and new to fatherhood at the time, Gabriel took to Diarmuid easily and was intent to find the kid the basics as well as parents. Of course, navigating that was difficult when the kid couldn’t or wouldn’t talk, so Gabriel kept him fed, clothes and warm until passing him off to more responsible adults. That set the stage for Diarmuid being probably the first non-canon character to be able to call Reaper by his ‘dead’ name, and while they often didn’t spend time together, it was a fact that remained that Diarmuid brought out a soft side to Reaper that no one else had accomplished. He was protective of the kid from afar, and when push came to shove where Diarmuid was about to be killed by Darth Maul, Reaper stepped in and gave his life so Diarmuid could escape. It was important that he do so for the first kid he had really acknowledge as someone worth protecting, bringing out a very old and honourable part of Reaper that otherwise remained hidden.

While Diarmuid had been the first kid Reaper had formed a connection with unwittingly, it was Will Byers that Reaper took his first real acknowledge shine to. Will reminded him a lot of his son way back in the day, which had been enough to earn him to approach and start training Will how to handle weapons. It was a seemingly random connection that grew the more time that Reaper spent time with Will, and because of many of his other connections, a part of him longed for that sense of family. With Will’s troubled and tormented past experiences, Reaper intended to become a stabilizing force for the kid. He took on more parental roles and found in Will a connection that he had long ago lost with his own son, something he actually desired to not do again.

Two of Reaper’s more contentious but no less important ‘kid’ relationships would be Lance and Ruby Rose. For Lance, Reaper was forced to acknowledge that they acted very similar to one another around that age, a part that irked him greatly. After all, that part of him was ‘dead’, and Reaper has done some shitty things to Lance. From saving him from the emotional trauma of a friend’s death cycle to rampaging when Lance killed Moira, Reaper and Lance have a very up and down relationship based on doing what they can to hurt each other. So far, Reaper is winning, and a part of him doesn’t plan on stopping either. Lance hits too close to home both in upbringing, life and even deaths. Reaper considers Lance to be dangerous to his own dead identity, but at the same time, it’s a connection to who he once was. Their relationship is wildly unhealthy, but they keep coming together to push each other’s old traumas anyway. Sometimes when you hurt that bad, you just want to relieve the horrors to assure yourself that you’re still alive.

Ruby Rose is someone who got in too deep too fast, and Reaper was perfectly fine to let her dig her own grave. While he has never outright gone after her physically, there is a power dynamic between them that he can’t help but enjoy. He likes to intimidate her, likes to prove he’s the better and more established goth of the place. On one hand, he’ll use his size and reputation to put her in her place, but on the other, he will heal her and doesn’t actually wish harm on her. Their relationship is one of a very odd master-apprentice gothy haphazard mess. He wouldn’t consider himself close to her and her to him, but there is a connection there that he does value as he gives him something he hasn’t found with another character.

The “Adults”
In his time at Deerington, Reaper came across many people and his reputation was quick to establish itself after the death of Chloe. Most Sleepers wouldn’t consider engaging him too hard and almost all of them would come at a conversation with wariness and distrust. Reaper’s first non-canon friend was the ancient god-killer Vira-Lorr who took her time at needling him over the years. Her caution and flirty playfulness earned her slow but gradual trust of him, and he revealed more and more of himself as he went through events and de-aging. He came to trust her implicitly, and often they would go hunting in various dangerous places together. She was likely one of the causes of him to warm up, and her interest in him romantically was one of the few he refused due to the fact he knew he was bad for her. He was the first to admit she deserved better than he could provide, and they developed a stronger friendship for it. Of course, during any and all of his current amnesia bouts, he began to turn the tables to flirt with her because the emotion of fondness wasn’t forgotten, just the context. Thankfully, Vira was gamely about it and rebuffed him over and over, much to his later silent chagrin.

There have been two versions of Bucky Barnes in Deerington, and Reaper had an uneasy relationship with both of them. The first he met and realized was a soldier similar to himself, which lead the way to an uneasy trust between them. They were never warm and fuzzy with each other by any means, and Bucky was probably the first person to believe that Reaper had a chance to be redeemed due to them likely suffering similar traumas. When the second version of Bucky arrived, Reaper had experienced considerable character development and was in a better place to return favours and understanding to Bucky. They never went beyond one another boundaries and that was an important part of the respect they had developed for one another.

While Reaper met many people, his interactions often took strange turns when it came with his interactions with Makoto Kino. Many of their beginning conversations could be construed as threats against each other as Reaper took issue with Usagi killing Maul and the double-standard of ‘good’ characters being given a pass for doing bad things but ‘bad’ characters being condemned for similar actions. He and Makoto were both the type to refuse to back down from each other, but he also had no issue poking the bear so to speak. It was through Vira-Lorr that he and Makoto actually started to build anything close to a relationship, and it remained him needling her at first.

Many of their conversations revolved around Reaper being a cynic and Makoto defending the most optimistic side of things. He might not agree with her and was quick to cut down arguments to the contrary of his own experiences, but he did respect that she stood her ground against him without trying to undercut his own points. It was in drunk-dialing him because of his cynical views proving correct that they started something a bit less combative with each other. After all, Chloe had beaten his defenses enough that he could actually show sympathy without getting emotional about it. Even now, she has begun to fit into the teenagers that challenge him that he is willing to assist with his years of experience.

The “Ball and Chains”
After the giant mess with Demonic Angela, it opened the way for a de-aged Gabriel Reyes to meet and instantly hit it off with Eddie Kaspbrak. Before this point, Reaper and Eddie had mostly just pushed each other’s buttons as much as possible, the King’s of Sarcasm and jarring commentary. Eddie would shriek at Reaper, and Reaper would growl back whenever they had a network back and forth; Eddie was more for entertainment purposes than any kind of real connection.

Then the de-aging event sent the both of them on a collision coarse of instant attraction to each other, and with the messed up timelines and memories thanks to Deerington, they established a quick relationship. They came at each other with two very different societal experiences, and they both taught each other a considerable amount. It was a fun but not entirely healthy relationship, but Reyes was fine to drag Eddie along in his wake of extroverted need for fun, and Eddie slowed Gabriel down so he thought more about other people more. They had some very deep discussions, even more harsh arguments that ended with their relationship dissolving with the pair of them returning to their normal ages.

Reaper went out of his way to hide who he was to Eddie, but at the same time, they had the kind of conversations that required a lot of trust for the both of them. Their relationship turned stilted and awkward with Reaper being basically antagonistic to the people of Eddie’s world to get a rise out of Eddie in response. Eventually, that Reaper and Reyes were the same person came out and it put a tremendous strain on their relationship because healthy emotional discussions were difficult with that much past trauma for the both of them. It had only been in the last several months that Reaper and Eddie have began to repair and navigate the minefield that was and is their relationship, and it’s an emotional ride that Reaper appreciates now that the both of them are in separate and probably healthier relationships with other people.

After the fall out with now two people being ugly and messy, Reaper swore off of any kind of pursuit of anything serious. The emotional battering wasn’t worth it, and he considered himself too broken and too irredeemable to make something that required that kind of investment to work. He spent many months pulled back emotionally from most characters, and he backtracked to leaning into being an asshole who was dramatic, skilled but also had a reputation as someone not to be messed with under most circumstances. He’d lost or was in the process of losing much of his close CR, causing him to pull back even further.

Then Reaper met the force of nature that was Darth Maul by being his normal dramatic self who used his power to save people. That was how he met Maul, and for him, aside from being curious, he was relatively unmoved by Maul. However, Maul was smitten. Over some months, Reaper and Maul met again and again, talked and found they could achieve easy conversation as their morals, their fierce reputations, and their wanton need for showing their power made them good candidates for friendship. That wasn’t good enough for Maul who began to awkwardly maneuver himself into asking Reaper out on a date. At first, Reaper accepted out of amused boredom and assumed Maul would get closer and backpedal.

It turned out that two very broken people with a history of self-sabotage in personal relationships seemed to understand their own pitfalls and somehow navigated around them. They began to build a solid relationship of nonjudgment, serious conversations about subjects others wouldn’t take well to and developed an understanding and trust of each other that Reaper had previously only developed with the likes of Moira and Vira-Lorr. Maul had forced his way in, and Reaper considered himself better for it now. They had their own disabilities that put them on even footing with each other, and each one balanced out the other. Reaper found he could calm Maul’s erratic outbursts when he chose to and Maul pushed him into actually engaging with the community at large.

The most telling part of their acceptance and care for one another was in their parting. Reaper left to seek out his revenge on his world, and Maul let him go without complaint. In the first admittance of decades, Reaper admitted he had come to love Maul in their year together, a massive feat given he had come to the game three years prior caring only for revenge and Moira with whom he had known for a considerable amount of time.

Deer Country Attributes

• Canon Powers:
Reaper’s canonical powers will be altered to pair with his new blood power: Darkblood. Because of the addition of blood magic, he will retain his abilities to dissolve into smoke – glittery smoke - (except it will in fact be a blood cloud rather than actual smoke), and he will keep the ability to form his own weapons at will, teleport distances that are within line of sight.

Darkblood will also stabilize his condition of the war of his body, so he will not longer be in a state of constant decay and regeneration in tandem. This will remove the constant state of pain that he endures. However, to counter this removal of a limitation, the use of his abilities will cause Reaper to be a high risk for an anemia as he will be consuming himself to do so. This anemia will cause weakness, exhaustion, an inability to tap into his canon powers, and also cause a growing need to consume blood to replenish himself (this will replace his life drain ability).

• Blood Type: Darkblood
• Omen: Black Peacock
• Blessed Day: December 31 – No canonical birthdate or special date associated with Reaper, and I can’t even find the day Overwatch officially collapsed (literally). So Reaper will have the last day of the year, where new intentions, new beginnings and personal resolutions are made. Another year over, another year to begin.
• Patron Pthumerian: Dorothea, Pthumerian of Manipulation
• Blood Power Manifestation:
First see canon powers section! Reaper’s canonical powers will be shifted over to relying on his new blood type. His canon powers and blood powers will be largely complimentary, so to him, very little has changed about how he runs his day-to-day except for some wonderful additions to continue to make him suffer on different levels.

Hellfire Shotguns: Reaper will use blood to pull his weapons as normal, and like before, they will eventually dissolve to glittery blood once they are no longer in use; that blood will return to Reaper to replenish him at about 75% of the original cost of forming them. Any living being that is struck with a bullet will suffer from black corruption-like lines spreading from the wound. This connection between himself and a target will allow Reaper to pull himself closer or throw the target further away from himself.
As his skill with his own blood grows, he will be able to transmute his shotguns into different sizes, shapes and different ranges depending on the situation. At mastery level, he can produce weapons of whatever type he desires including firearms, bladed weapons, bludgeoning weapons and everything in between.

Shadow Step / Wraith Walk: Because of the inherent nature of darkblood to warp time, reality and telekinesis, Reaper will be able to translocate himself to distances within line of sight. He will still require a mental calculation to distances, but it will be made easier because it is a blood magic power now. In the beginning, he will not be able to cross transparent barriers as usual such as glass. As he grows in skill, he will be able to bend the reality of his direct path to allow him safe passage through solid transparent barriers, but the barrier in question will be shattered or at least warped as if trying to follow him. At mastery level, Reaper will be able to force solid barriers – transparent or translucent – to warp and bend around him to allow him entry into a particular place. The stipulation is that he has to have been to that place at least once before and have marked it with his blood.

In order to perform this ability, Reaper will drain himself of his own blood to do so. He will be limited, and in the beginning, the use of Shadow Step or Wraith Walk will leave him with a far-sightedness that he will learn over time to adapt to.

The Reaping: Reaper will no longer drain the life of those that he damages, as his blood sustains him to being physically stable. Because he is no longer in physical war of decay and regeneration, he is also no longer ‘cursed’ with the pain of being in such flux. While the mental clarity will be amazing for him, it comes as a cost as well. Instead of draining life, he will be forced to rely on his own blood in order to sustain himself and tap into it for the use of his abilities.

In consuming his own blood pool, it will leave Reaper will a sense of hunger. Normally, the consumption of food, drink and some rest will allow him to repopulate his blood appropriately over time. However, if he requires a quick regeneration, he can consume the blood of other living creatures to replenish himself.

Path of Corruption: "All good things will falter and fade with enough time."
Depending on the way that Trench operates and easily blood magic will be in operation, Reaper will likely be forced to rely on feeding on blood to regenerate himself during certain intense events. The hunger from the need to regenerate his own blood to sustain his abilities will be far easier to give into because he no longer will have the chronic pain of his unstable body to focus on, he will struggle to not give in to the hunger.

Also, drinking the blood of those he has a strong connection with will leave a sense of euphoria, even if it comes with a cost of the effects of the other blood types. Combined with his natural combative-style activities, Reaper could easily push himself down the path of corruption unwittingly and perhaps willingly if it feels good enough.
