To achieve balance, love will bring out the best and aspects of the worst. Balance in the middle ground where you have to give as much of yourself as you take out of it. Maul was the first person in a very long time where I felt I could be my best and my worst, and he'd still love me.
[It was a lot to admit, and he took a moment to stare out the window of his room with a distant look, suddenly feeling the weight of both age and experience. He mentally acknowledged all that he had done, good and bad, and the long list of accomplishments that lead him to this point of not shedding this 'break-up' as he had with so many others.
Then he sighed and seemed to draw back into himself again, straightening the posture, setting his shoulders and there was a swell of black smoke up under all of his exposed skin before it disappeared like it never existed. He stepped from the window and his clothing wavered and shifted back to his normal black leather uniform.]
And I'll protect this household. I invite anyone to try to bring harm here. [There would only be death awaiting them.]
[Fern chews on his lower lip, wanting to continue arguing. This isn't balance, this is just Maul taking and not giving back. It's Maul being at his worst and nothing else. That isn't love.
But he doesn't. Reaper seems pretty set, and instead he gives Varian a worried sideglance.]
Th... thanks, man. We appreciate it.
[They could use the help protecting all the kids here.]
[Varian is definitely ready to argue this, and opens his mouth to do so- but he catches Fern's thoughts, his sidelong glance and his mouth closes. He watches Reaper put himself together again and it's like a full stop on the conversation. Fern's right, the man is set and better to make sure he knows he's supported than trying to argue the point. ]
We do. We're really lucky to have you here. And...if you need anything, you know all you need to do is ask, right?
[Reaper shook himself off and straighten, seeming to put the malaise behind him and putting his usual front back into place. He had to find a way to keep himself together, but more than that, he was going to have to busy himself keeping track of the other housemates and make certain they were safe. That was going to require a lot of teleporting, so he'd need some kind of energy source to supplement himself.
He knew one way, but he'd have to experiment. Something to dedicate his attention to.]
Of course. You two can stop worrying about me. This isn't my first rodeo, now off you go. I have some duties to attend to.
[A quick thought of reassurance is sent to Varian - at least they've made it clear to Reaper they care about his wellbeing and want to help him through this - before he gives a small nod. This whole situation is an even bigger mess, which has him worried.]
O... okay. [He reaches for Varian's hand, gripping him tightly before turning to head out.]
[Varian opens his mouth, ready to argue more on this. He's a stubborn little shit and even more so when someone he cares about is hurting and he has the potential to do something about it. But Fern's read the situation better than he has (as usual) and as Fern takes his hand his mouth closes.
He lets out an uneasy breath.]
Okay. We'll...leave you to it.
[And with that, he lets Fern drag him out of the room, non the less worried for his friend. ]
